This was an extremely exciting week. I am deep in my research, and I am beginning to see my blog’s structure form. On Monday I organized last week’s research and notes into a chronological outline. On Wednesday I searched official Florida websites, such as Florida Memory and the Florida Department of State’s Library and Information Services, to find information on Spanish Florida. I found useful sources that helped me further my understanding on Florida’s transition from Spanish rule to the Legislative Council of the Territory of Florida and finally to U.S. Statehood. I plan to reread many of these sources in more detail over the weekend. On Thursday I shifted gears and looked through The Library of Congress’ digital archives to find more sources on Key West. Some of these sources will be included in my blog. I found other sources that go beyond the period covered in the blog such as this incredible illustration of 1884 Key West:
This week I attended three Library of Congress webinars. My Tuesday webinar went over The Library of Congress’ Strategic Plan and what the Library did in 2021 to fulfill it. On Wednesday I attended a webinar hosted by former Library of Congress interns and fellows. Everyone on the panel was kind and helpful. I gained excellent advice that is relevant for many different careers. In Friday’s webinar I met the larger Library of Congress Blog and Editorial teams and received additional feedback on my topic.
