This week I am turning my outline into a fully written draft. I will be continuing this process over the weekend. While I have completed the bulk of my research, I am still confirming a handful of claims that I felt needed additional citations. For instance, numerous articles state that Representative Joseph Bradley Varnum was essential in the passage of the 1808 Act Prohibiting Slavery. These articles consistently claimed that Varnum communicated resolutions from Massachusetts’ state legislature to the U.S. Congress, imploring that the slave trade be outlawed. Despite this I was unable to find a primary source which showed Varnum introducing these resolutions… until this week. There it was on Page 171 of the House Journal for March 3rd, 1805. Let me tell you, after two months of constantly seeing this detail (and constantly not including it in my drafts due to the lack of citations) I jumped in joy finding this. I know some people who say that research is monotonous, but I personally cannot relate to that. When I find something at the end of a long search, it is so satisfying and worthwhile.
